Project Details
In mid December 1998 ACWD received notice that the 6″ water main providing water to the multi-family residents in the Deep Creek Apartment complex had broken. In response to the emergency, ACWD chose to deploy some of its recently purchased 6″ Portable Pipeline.
ACWD attached the 6″ Blue Portable Pipeline to a Fire Hydrant. The ACWD used an 8″ X 6″ Cast Iron Flanged Tee, a 6″ gear operated Butterfly Valve and a 6″ Style 741 Victaulic X flange adapter. By using these fittings the water department attached the Portable Pipeline to the hydrant without having to interrupt the Fire Department connection. ACWD deployed the Portable Pipeline on the top of the curb area thereby avoiding any potential damage from automobile tires or impeding traffic movement.
ACWD kept the temporary line in service for approximately two weeks while the contractor repaired the underground cast iron main. Using the PPS tool permitted the apartment complex to have all the water they needed yet permitted ACWD to work normal job schedules without having to pay overtime.
ACWD considers the Portable Pipeline System an investment and valuable asset in their emergency preparedness program. They consider the PPS as a critical tool in their water main construction repair program.
