Project Details
On the 21st of December the Field Utility Supervisor responded to a call from the El Camino Memorial Funeral Park that they had lost their water supply. Upon investigation, it was determined that a construction co. was installing a new 36″ concrete pressure main along Carroll Rd. This road leads to the El Camino Memorial Park. During excavation they accidentally severed the primary water main to the Memorial Park.
The distribution division of SDWD responded to the incident by bringing out (8/100′) lengths of 2-112″ Portable Pipeline from their Emergency Response storeroom. Each length was coupled with Cast Brass Expansion Ring NPSH threaded couplings. Two parallel lines of 2-1/2″ Portable Pipeline were laid above ground along the road leading to the Memorial Park’s intake manifold.
The Park requires a constant supply of water at approximately 80 lbs. The volume needed and pressure supplied by SDWD was sufficient to operate all lawn sprinklers, decorative fountain systems and still maintain an adequate supply of water to operate the sanitation facilities.
The quick response on the part of SDWD permitted the Memorial Park to remain open for visitations and maintain their scheduled memorial services.
The San Diego Water Department considers the Portable Pipeline System to be a “good investment” and they plan to purchase additional sizes and lengths in the future.
